Specialized Metal Recycling recently completed the dismantling of the former Wallowa Forest Products mill in Wallowa, OR. The project began in early June when SMR crews arrived in Wallowa County to begin preliminary work on the project. The project included the processing and removal of all major structures at the mill site including conveyors, hoppers and buildings at the site. Nearly 100% of the materials from this project were recycled.

SMR crews utilized their fleet of two Hitachi ZX-450 excavators, one with standard excavator attachments and the other with a Genesis second member shear for pre-processing large steel components. SMR crews also utilized their Cat 980 wheel loader and Hitachi ZX-250 Custom Material Handler for loading.

Transporting Pre-Processed Material Wallowa, OR. Mill Demo

Once processed, the scrap steel was loaded onto rail cars which were used to transport the processed material to a steel mill in the Willamette Valley.

SMR crews worked closely with the property owners to produce a top quality product in a timely manner. Both SMR and the project owners were very satisfied with the results. The project was completed on time and on budget, which is the expectation for all SMR recycling projects.
